Greetings friends,
hard to believe but it was a year ago that our membership ratified the
collective agreement setting the wheels in motion to end our first strike,
and to get back to work. Over the week there will be the flashes of
recollection of little milestones I’m sure. First time back into the
worksite, visualizing 3 months of bookdrop, first time we re-opened our
doors to the public and so on.
I spent some time over the past few days looking through our media gallery
on the website. Some fantastic pictures and videos and articles about our
88 days on the line. Seeing them, it prompted me to write to you all, to
again say “Thank You!” What we did collectively was, and is, incredible.
To the bargainers, exec-sters, teamsters, union contacts and job action
coordinators a special thanks for the leadership roles held during a
difficult time.
Today it looks like a sunny day, so I think I might wear a hat that I
haven’t worn for 365 days, and take a stroll by my favourite places in the
city, the Vancouver Public Library locations, on the chance of seeing some
of my favourite people in the city, the members of CUPE 391.

I am a denizen of Key Capri, near St. Petersburg for eleven days. Long white sand beaches, formed from shells, manatees frolicking in their trudgy way near by.
I will be gone from October 11-22, Pensions on the 23rd and in the office 24th.
Laura (Level 3) and Inder (Britannia) will be holding the fort. Thank you, CUPE 391, for investing in your future.

General Meeting
Wednesday, October 8, 6 p.m.
Central Library,
Alice MacKay Room
Pizza served - door prizes!!!
This is the most important meeting for our membership to attend this year. We will be discussing the impact of the municipal elections: how public service will be affected; how we, as a union, can promote democratic working conditions with our employer.
Our employer is the Vancouver Public Library Board. Who appoints the trustees to the board will depend on who is on council.
Please participate in this meeting and take an active part in determining our future as public servants and as builders of strong communities.
The “silly season” is here with a vengeance.
- October 14th we have a the federal election. I voted Friday night as I will be put of the country on holidays from October 11 to 22.
- October 29th - two by-elections: Vancouver Fairview and Vancouver Burrard. Jenn McGinn is the NDP candidate for Vancouver Fairview, replacing Gregor Robertson. She is an account manager and former vice-President of Little Mountain Neighbourhood House and past Executive Director of the South Granville Seniors Centre. Jenn McGinn
