Call for Volunteers
In less than a month we have been incredibly successful in building a functional, well-organized and effective organization virtually from scratch, and all with volunteer labour. It should go without saying that the executive, the bargaining committee, the job action co-ordinator and the various recently-formed committees want to express their most heartfelt thanks to those among us who have seen a need, or answered a call, and stepped in to volunteer their time during this job action.
Every time someone volunteers to help out on a particular project, our capacity grows. This growing capacity also creates new opportunities however, and each of these new opportunities brings a need for more volunteers. In particular we need more volunteers to help with our advocacy efforts. The city has the Wilcox group, we have you. As the job action has progressed our efforts in this area have expanded. Members have come forward to do research, to monitor the media, to translate materials, and a number of other things. New horizons have come into our view, such as the blogosphere. The more help we have in each of these areas, the stronger our organization becomes. Below is a list of the areas for which we continue to need volunteers, as well as the name of the member who is co-ordinating efforts in this area. If you are interested in volunteering, please do any of the following:
- E-mail cupe391advocacy@gmail.com with your name, contact information and area of interest
- Leave your contact information with a picket captain to be forwarded to the suggestion box at Central
- Fill out a suggestion form for the suggestion box including your name, contact information and area of interest
- Approach one of the people listed below when you see them on the picket lines
Volunteers are needed for:
- Research: Anne Dodington
- Writing letters to the editor: Lis Nygaard
- Writing pamphlets
- Monitoring the media: Guy Cribdon
- Monitoring the Blogosphere: James Gemmill
- Translating communications into languages other than English: Beibei Zhang
- Graphic design of handouts, etc.: James Gemmill
- Anything else? If you have an idea don't hesitate to suggest it!
Please note that volunteer time does not count toward your picket time.
